Learn How to Conserve Water, Our Most Precious Resource
Posted by: The Guru, in InsuranceWater is our most precious resource and Americans as well as Utahans must learn how to conserve water. Here are a few tips on water conservation and how you can participate in saving water in your household:
• Stop dripping faucets. A dripping faucet can waste 20 gallons of water a day. A leaking toilet can use 90,000 gallons of water in a month. Fixing a leaky faucet is easy to do by changing the washers. If you can’t do it, call your friendly plumber to go through the house to check for leaks and repair all of your faucets.
• Aerators on your faucets can reduce water volume and water-saving showerheads can cut the volume of water used down to 1.2 gallons per minute or less. There are new technologies for saving water in the bathroom such as showers with a “pause button” while you soap and shampoo. This is itself will save a tremendous amount of water.
• Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving. Always wash dishes and laundry with full loads. Take shorter showers and shower with a friend.
• Conserve watering the lawn by watering at night. Better yet, start a green initiative campaign to start replacing the lawn with water-efficient, colorful indigenous plants for a Utah landscape. The average homeowner uses 60% of their water to irrigate lawns and gardens.
As citizens of Utah become more environmentally conscious about their water consumption, dip into state resources for education on how to conserve water for yourself and your neighbors. Conservation is a key to a brighter future.
